I spent the most amazing Bank Holiday weekend in Wales. On the Sunday, Jo and I set out to visit a legendary lake in the Brecon Beacons called "Llyn Y Fan Fach".
The walk up to the lake istelf took about 50 minutes and is a constant climb. However, it was all worth it once we got up to the lake. The sense of peace was quite something. The lake is bordered by the Black Mountian with a velvety green face.
I had considered seeing the lake and then walking back to the car, but inspiration took me and after coming this far, I just had to walk up to the 2000ft "Bannau Sir Gaer" ridge and along to the "Picws Du" peak. Walking up to the ridge was exhausting but I felt exhileration knowing that I probably would have been completley out of breath and coughing had I still been a smoker (I've not smoked for nearly 5 months).
Reaching the peak was an incredible feeling and the view was amazing. However, I actually found the best bit to be looking back at the peak on the way down and thinking "I walked up there". Once back down from the ridge, we walked aroudn the perimiter of the lake (which was a feat in itself). From there you get a true sense of scale of the mountains looming over you. We were really flagging by the time we reached the car. Even Indy was tired. It was a satisfied fatigue. We all slept very soundly that night.
I got a load of nice shots (some of which you can see in the gallery), but must admit I was so overwhelmed by the whole affair that I didn't really concentrate on the photography as an art rather to get some shots of one of the most memorable days of my life. I would reccomend it to anyone (except smokers).
