In 2005, the Sony Ericsson k750i camera
phone came out when I was renewing my mobile phone contract, things
stepped up a gear. With the k750i I had a 3 mega-pixel camera in my
pocket! With an additional 1 gigabyte card added, I could shoot for
long periods without having to transfer images to the computer. When Jo
and I went for a holiday to Devon we both took camera phones and came
back with lots of photos which I then downloaded to the PC, cropped and
adjusted levels. The results were pleasing considering the size and
simplicity of the camera. The following year we managed to get a break
away with friends to Tenerife. I took so many photos with my camera
phone that holiday. I'm so glad I did as looking back at them now
really brings it flooding back.
It was once we were back from Tenerife and I was editing the photos that the photography bug really caught on again. I was so inspired by the images. I went back to the Olympus CZ-300 to see if I could persevere and get good quality images, but it just wasn't right.
We were watching "The Apprentice" and there was an episode about photographic art. Some of the photographers I aspired to, others I thought were downright awful. At this point I thought, I could do this. After some research on digital SLRs I decided to fulfil a long held dream and purchased a Nikon D80 SLR. I seemed to pick up the basic techniques very quickly and within three months of having the camera I was offered the job of shooting a Piano students' concert. The shoot was a big success and was a great way for me to 'cut my teeth' at event photography.
From then on the rest is history!
