My Dad was right about the Olympus trip though! With fairly minimal knowledge I managed to get some great shots with this camera, most notably when we went to the USA on a fly-drive for two weeks in 1993 where I took some very pleasing shots of Lake Superior, Minnesota.

In 2000 I took it on tour with me through England, Scotland, Ireland and The Netherlands though, I seldom had time to snap away and usually they were just shots to help bring back the memories.

In the years following, I barely touched my camera. In 2001 my Dad gave me an old Nikon SLR and gave me a basic instruction on how to use it but honestly, I didn't really have a clue how to use it properly and in the digital age that we were now living in, I found the time involved in getting shots developed and the fact that I would have to scan them in to my PC meant I lost interest quickly.

Christmas time 2002, and my partner Jo decided that she really wanted a digital camera so we bought a 3 mega-pixel Olympus CZ-300. This new digital aspect, the instant gratification of the shot re-invigorated my interest in photography but it still had limitations with regards to picture quality and battery life and was still just a point-and-shoot. The Olympus was also slow and awkward to use.
